Liberals reacted strongly Wednesday when President Trump declared his intention to move the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, the country’s true capital, but prominent Democrats have supported the move for decades.
President Obama, former Secretary of State Clinton, and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) all have supported the idea of recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital at one time or another.
When running for president in 2008, Obama declared the he believed Jerusalem should “remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided.” However, through eight years of his presidency, Obama did nothing to achieve U.S. recognition of Israel’s capital.
