Guatemalan woman injured in fall while trying to scale US-Mexico border fence

A 26-year-old migrant woman from Guatemala was reportedly injured while attempting to scale a fence at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Border Patrol agents said that the woman was impaled on pieces of rebar after falling off the border fence late Friday night near the San Ysidro Port of Entry, according to BuzzFeed News.

The woman was treated for non-life threatening injuries at a local hospital, the news outlet added. Her two children, ages 3 and 5, were not injured, and have been released to Border Patrol custody.

Agents said they have not yet determined how she reached the area.

Border Patrol agent Tekae Michael told BuzzFeed News that the woman was not part of the migrant caravan waiting in Tijuana to claim asylum. – READ MORE
