Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) made it clear that she supports President Donald Trump’s promise to shut down the border in preparation for the caravan, but hopes that Congress can avoid shutting down the government to secure wall funding.
Sen. Earnst, the incoming Vice Chairwoman of the Senate Republican Conference, said that she supports the president’s calls for taking whatever steps are necessary to ensure American safety, as she explained to CNN’s State of the Union.

Although Sen. Ernst clearly agreed with President Trump’s strategy on the border, she used the same reasoning to state why she disagrees with shutting down the government to secure wall funding.
