MSNBC weekend morning show host Joy Reid and her guest, Above the Law’s Elie Mystal, didn’t bother containing their excitement Saturday over the news that First Daughter Ivanka Trump is “in the crosshairs” in a potential corruption scandal. Perhaps, Mystal mused, threats of arresting Ivanka over the 2017 inauguration will be the way to finally “get to Trump.”
Reid led into the discussion by bringing up the latest “bombshell” that has MSNBC and other left-leaning outlets once again proclaiming that the end might be nigh for Team Trump. A ProPublica report published Friday provided the fodder for Reid’s hypothetical discussion with Mystal. Titled “Trump’s Inauguration Paid Trump’s Company — With Ivanka in the Middle,” the piece places Ivanka at the center of a potential illegal over-billing scheme by the inaugural committee.
“The inauguration paid the Trump Organization for rooms, meals and event space at the company’s Washington hotel, according to interviews as well as internal emails and receipts reviewed by WNYC and ProPublica,” the outlet reports. “During the planning, Ivanka Trump, the president-elect’s eldest daughter and a senior executive with the Trump Organization, was involved in negotiating the price the hotel charged the 58th Presidential Inaugural Committee for venue rentals. A top inaugural planner emailed Ivanka and others at the company to ‘express my concern’ that the hotel was overcharging for its event spaces, worrying of what would happen ‘when this is audited.'” – READ MORE
