The Mexican military battled a drug cartel near the U.S.-Mexico border with machine guns and armored vehicles in a dramatic video caught by a citizen journalist this past week.

The shootout took place in Mexican border state of Tamaulipas approximately one mile south of the U.S.-Mexico border in Rio Bravo, as first reported by Breitbart Texas.

In the video, Mexican military forces arrive on the edges of Rio Bravo in armored vehicles and engage in an intense gun battle with cartel gunman reportedly armed with machine guns.

The exact date of the recent gun battle is unknown as these kinds of skirmishes have become common place as rival factions of the Gulf Cartel battle for control of the area because of its value as a drug route into the U.S.

Since May, drug cartels have murdered approximately 140 people in this small border town as a result of the warring drug cartels, some of the victims lit on fire and burned beyond recognition, Cartel Chronicles reported.

Mexico is ranked as the second deadliest country on earth as powerful drug cartels kill thousands of people every month and have corrupted every level of the Mexican government.
