Louisiana’s Democrat governor praised the federal government Tuesday for its response to Hurricane Harvey.

On CNN’s “New Day,” Gov. John Bel Edwards had nothing but good things to say about the feds for how they’ve helped local governments deal with the fallout from the hurricane.

“First of all, let me tell you that the federal government has been excellent,” Edwards said. “The president has called twice, he signed the declaration we requested within a few hours of our making the request on Sunday.”

“Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Duke has been wonderful and FEMA administrator Brock has been great as well,” he continued.

Edwards explained that, “more than anything else,” Louisiana needs “Mother Nature to cooperate” and the storm to continue to move through the area. Once the storm moves through, he said, Louisiana can work on drying itself out and cleaning up the areas that need reconstruction.
