University Investigates Student Who ‘Puts Minority Students At Risk’ By Mocking ISIS

A British university is investigating a law student for “blatant Islamophobia” for an April comment in which he mocked ISIS.

The University of Edinburgh is investigating student Robbie Travers for a Facebook comment in which he said “I’m glad we could bring these barbarians a step closer to collecting their 72 virgins” after the US Air Force bombed an ISIS base in April, according to The Daily Mail.

“Excellent news that the US administration and Trump ordered an accurate strike on an IS network of tunnels in Afghanistan,” said Travers in the post. “I’m glad we could bring these barbarians a step closer to collecting their 72 virgins.”

Fellow student Esme Allman accused Travers of “blatant Islamophobia,” said that he “put minority students at risk and in a state of panic,” and alleged he violated the school’s student code of conduct.

But the university denied investigating Travers for “mocking ISIS” when speaking with The Daily Caller News Foundation.

“We are committed to providing an environment in which all members of the University community treat each other with dignity and respect,” said a university spokesperson to TheDCNF. “Our Code of Student Conduct sets out clear expectations of behavior.”

“We can confirm that complaints alleging misconduct have been received against Mr. Travers and these are being investigated. It is, however, untrue to suggest that Mr. Travers is ‘under investigation’ for ‘mocking ISIS’.”

Edinburgh declined to elaborate when pressed by TheDCNF to explain for which particular comments or actions Travers was being investigated.
