Texas Lawmaker Unable To Leave His Home For Days During Flooding

Republican Rep. Brian Babin was stuck in his Texas home for days as a result of Hurricane Harvey’s “unprecedented” rains and flooding, before he was able to make his way out Wednesday.

“His priorities have been and remain with his constituents,” spokesman Jimmy Milstead told Politico. “Babin has managed to get past the flooding around his house and has since rejoined a local emergency management operations center to help oversee the response effort.”

The representative lives in Woodville, Texas, which is about 120 miles from the Houston area, where the majority of the damage took place. Hurricane Harvey made landfall as a Category 4 storm and dumped more than 50 inches of rain in and around the metropolitan area.

Local airports were shut down over the weekend, but both the George Bush International and William P. Hobby airport announced they planned to reopen Wednesday, with full services scheduled to resume by the weekend, according to the report.
