Last week we broke a story about a problematic search warrant U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller used to raid the Virginia home of Paul Manafort.
Now days later, the judge in the high-profile case is locking the case down by forbidding Manfort’s lawyers to talk about the warrant or any other aspect of this case.
Who is Manafort’s judge? Ketanji Jackson. She was Hillary Clinton’s and Barack Obama’s top pick to replace the late-Antonin Scalia on the U.S. Supreme Court. She was appointed to her current position by Obama.
Paul Ryan is actually related to Democrat super judge and helped get her confirmed to the federal bench. In fact, Ryan testified on her behalf during her confirmation hearings.
The move to gag the Manafort case will likely benefit Mueller if the federal warrant issue blows up in his team’s collective face.
Though we are not legal pundits it is hard to see how this move benefits Manafort’s defense. If anything, it only benefits the government, which is hardly a surprise.
