A manhunt involving several law enforcement departments continued into the early-morning hours after a police officer was shot and killed Friday night in New Kensington, PA outside of Pittsburgh.
The officer has been identified as Officer Brian Shaw of the New Kensington Police Department. He had been with the department less than a year.
Police did not have an immediate suspect description, but say the shooting started with a traffic stop that led to a foot pursuit. At some point, shots were fired.
A BOLO “be on the lookout” alert was issued for a gold-colored Jeep, which was later found unoccupied in New Kensington.
Officers from multiple surrounding departments joined the search for the shooter. Authorities were seen carrying rifles. Police dogs also are being used in the search.
A police helicopter is also joining the search.

This happened 5 weeks ago. The boy in this picture had just gotten a pair of toy handcuffs and saw Brian Shaw eating dinner and wanted to show him his cuffs. Shaw spent time with the boy, showing him his "real" cuffs.
