After nearly two months had elapsed since their last illicit test launch of a ballistic missile, North Korea recently drew attention with their launch of a new intercontinental ballistic missile that could conceivably place the mainland United States at risk.
According to NBC News, that new missile has been designated by the North Koreans as the Hwasong-15. They claim it is capable of carrying a “super-large heavy warhead” that could destroy virtually any city in America, though experts are reticent to confirm that unproven claim.
What has been confirmed about the missile is that it flew higher than any previous missile launched by the rogue communist regime, roughly ten times higher than the international space station and nearly twice as high as any other satellite orbiting the earth.
“It went higher, frankly, than any previous shot they’ve taken,” Defense Secretary James Mattis informed reporters at the White House shortly after the launch.

The missile is believed to have reached an altitude of 2,800 miles above the earth, and crashed into the Sea of Japan about 600 miles east of where it had been launched.
