NFL Owner Just Responded to Trump’s Blistering Anthem Protest Tweet to League — And Thanked Him

President Donald Trump on Wednesday posted a harshly critical tweet about the NFL, telling Commissioner Roger Goodell to address the controversial national anthem protests because the issue is “killing” the league.

“The NFL is now thinking about a new idea — keeping teams in the Locker Room during the National Anthem next season,” Trump tweeted. “That’s almost as bad as kneeling! When will the highly paid Commissioner finally get tough and smart? This issue is killing your league!”

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones responded to Trump’s comments in an interview with CNN, actually thanking the president for weighing in:

There’s no question because of our visibility, our substantiveness, that we are looked to for social responsibility as well. This is all a part of what I’ve been talking about with the commissioner, and certainly I appreciate not only the President, but I want everybody to be a fan of the Dallas Cowboys. And I want to do everything I can to make them a fan of the Cowboys or the NFL. I just appreciate the interest.”
