(Daily Caller) A new poll shows that 76 percent of Americans want Congress to repeal Obamacare, but CNN reported the story as Americans showing “last-minute love for Obamacare.”

CNN released the poll Thursday morning in a piece titled, “CNN/ORC Poll Shows Last-Minute Love For Obamacare.” The article states that this is the first time more Americans have favored, not opposed, President Barack Obama’s landmark health care legislation since it passed in 2010. Some 49 percent of Americans say they favor Obamacare, compared to the 47 percent who oppose it, according to the poll.

Upon closer examination of the poll, there’s a different narrative than the article purports. When asked, “how would you like Congress to handle the law (Obamacare) in its coming session,” respondents overwhelmingly (76 percent) said Congress should move to “repeal” portions of Obamacare. Some 21 percent of those surveyed said that Congress should move to repeal parts of the law as the opportunities arise, “regardless of whether a replacement is ready.” Even more, or 55 percent, of respondents said Congress should repeal parts of the law, “only if replacements can be enacted at the same time.”

Even more interesting, considering the CNN headline, is that 37 percent of respondents said they consider Obamacare a failure, outpacing the 23 percent who said the law is overall a success.

President-elect Donald Trump and the Republican-held Congress plan to move forward with “repeal and replace,” immediately after Trump takes office Friday.
