Mexican Journalists Respond With Horror To Trump’s Inauguration
(Daily Caller) Mexican journalists have responded to President Donald Trump’s inauguration by calling him a racist, referencing Adolf Hitler, and talking about a day of “mourning.”
President Trump began his campaign for the presidency criticizing a select amount of Mexican immigrants who commit violent crime in the U.S. He has also continued to pledge that Mexico will pay for the construction of a border wall.
Oscar Mario Betata wrote in El Universal Friday that, “D-Day begins this Friday for everyone.” Betata, an award winning journalist, went on to say in his column that Trump poses a grave threat to the Mexican nation and that their only hope is his agenda is global and doesn’t focus on Mexico.
Another columnist in El Universal, one of Mexico’s largest papers, compared Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto to the last Aztec emperor Moctezuma and said Nieto could oversee his nation falling to the hand’s of a foreign power.
The despondent reaction to Trump’s inauguration was not limited to El Universal. A political cartoon in El Jornada Saturday compared President Trump to Adolf Hitler. Laura Castro Golarte, a columnist for El Informador, said that Saturday is a day of “mourning” because the 45th president of the U.S. has taken office.
Another journalist for El Informador wrote that Trump’s administration is evidently “oligarchical,” “racist,” “misogynistic,” and “xenophobic.”
Jorge Ramos, the Mexican journalist Trump has clashed most with, wrote in his column Saturday for Reforma that his three decades of covering authoritarian Latin American leaders have prepared him to cover Trump.
