(Daily Caller) An Islamic State terror attack in Jerusalem Sunday marks the third time in just six months ISIS sympathizers have used a truck as a weapon in high-profile incidents.
Sunday’s attacker was a Palestinian man who rammed a truck into a crowd of Israeli soldiers, killing four and wounding several others. The terrorist was neutralized shortly after. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed with reporters the terrorist was “by all indications a supporter of the Islamic State.”
The Jerusalem attack comes just weeks after a Tunisian ISIS-inspired refugee used a truck to kill 12 at a crowded Berlin Christmas market. The terrorist stole the truck from a Polish driver, and was not apprehended for nearly four days while a continent-wide man hunt was under way. The Berlin attack mirrored the July 14 truck attack in Nice, France which killed nearly 100 people and injured several others.
The attacks demonstrate the long-held ISIS strategy of encouraging sympathizers to use anything at their disposal to carry out attacks in the West. ISIS also frequently uses suicide bombers in cars and trucks to inflict major damage in Iraq, Syria, and other global affiliates. The group frequently encourages these attacks in its propaganda following 2015.
Palestinian terrorists, without ISIS inspiration, have similarly used truck attacks in the past. Just 24 hours before the attacks in Nice, a Palestinian man was killed by Israeli border guards when he charged the security point checkpoint at a high speed. The man was using a well-known Hamas tactic of ramming cars into Israeli soldiers and civilians in the West Bank to wreak as much havoc as possible. In December, 2015, a Palestinian man drove his car straight into a crowded bus stop.
