University of Colorado climate expert Dr. Roger Pielke, Jr. has a harsh response for reporters asking him on the connection between global warming and Tropical Storm Harvey — the climate debate can wait.
Pielke tweeted his response to reporters’ questions Monday, urging the media to stop focusing on the “politicized” climate debate and instead focus on the unfolding disaster in eastern Texas.

Pielke earned the ire of liberal groups and politicians in recent years, pointing out the inconvenient lack of evidence suggesting global warming is making weather more frequent and intense.
Pielke’s work is backed up by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and a recent draft of the National Climate Assessment, both of which found little to suggest hurricanes were getting worse.
Despite this, some scientists and activists are linking Harvey to man-made global warming.
Hurricane Harvey broke a 12-year streak of no major hurricanes making landfall in the U.S. Harvey landed on Texas’s Gulf Coast as a Category 4 storm, bringing record levels of rainfall and flooding.

Harvey is expected to move out to sea Tuesday, then return to land Wednesday and move north. The storm will continue to dump rain over Gulf Coast states through Friday, likely causing more flooding.
Emergency crews have rescued thousands of people from flooded homes and streets, and at least six people have died during the storm.
