FBI officials used grand jury subpoenas to obtain emails from associates of Hillary Clinton’s, a bureau official revealed in court documents filed on Wednesday.
The declaration, made by Bill Priestap, the FBI’s assistant director for counterintelligence, reveals grand jury subpoenas were used more expansively than previously known in the bureau’s investigation of Clinton, which centered on whether she mishandled classified information on her private email account.
“In instances where the FBI discovered evidence of the potential unauthorized transmission of classified information from the [Clinton] personal email servers to private third party email accounts of individuals with whom Secretary Clinton corresponded and could establish sufficient probable cause, the FBI sought additional legal process, to include grand jury subpoenas, in order to obtain additional e-mails relevant to the FBI’s investigation,” Priestap wrote in a court declaration. – READ MORE
