Special counsel Robert Mueller should hurry to wrap up the investigation into Russian meddling during the 2016 presidential election, says New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a Republican who went to the mat to help get President Donald Trump elected.
“This is the problem with special prosecutors,” said Christie, a former U.S. prosecutor, on “The Laura Ingraham Show” Friday morning. “They’re given a discrete task. It always expanded beyond the discrete task. They’re always looking to make a charge to justify their existence.”
Mueller was appointed as special counsel in May by the Department of Justice to investigate Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. The investigation has reportedly widened its focus to investigate matters related to Trump and his associates unrelated to Russian meddling in U.S. elections.
“What I would say now is, listen, ‘Wrap it up,'” said Christie, speaking of Mueller and his investigation. “Get to work, get it done. Come to the conclusion … Was there collusion between the Russian government and the Trump campaign in the 2016 presidential campaign?”
