A Chinese company has beaten Amazon by delivering online goods by unmanned drone.

E-commerce giants Jingdong has already begun using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to deliver goods to customers in rural areas.

Amazon is planning on introducing a similar scheme but not until 2017 or 2018.

The drones can carry loads of up to 15 kilograms with a top speed of 15 meters per second.

Two drones are being used in Suqian City, east China’s Jiangsu Province, in areas with low populations and fewer order.

The UAVs can fulfil 200 orders every day, lowering the delivery cost to less than 0.5 yuan (about 0.076 US dollar) every order.

According to Wang Shaomei, a villager in the Caoji County, it only took her half a day to buy a router on line, a quarter of the time it took before. – READ MORE
