Citizens in 40 countries, including Belgium, France, Germany and the UK, greatly overestimate their country’s Muslim population and the rate at which it is increasing, an Ipsos MORI survey has indicated.
The study measured the gap between public perception and reality on Islamic immigration old and new, finding French respondents were the most likely to overstate their country’s current and projected Muslim population. On average, the French estimate 31% of the population is Muslim (the reality, according to Pew Research, is actually 7.5%), and this total will rise to 40% by 2020 (Pew’s forecast is 8.3%). – READ MORE
