WATCH: Theresa May Vows Brexit Will Go On

British Prime Minister Theresa May vowed to form a government and lead Brexit negotiations after loosing a major snap election Thursday, just 10 days before the government was due to begin Brexit negotiations.

Leader of the Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn was victorious in a close race against May, giving the left-leaning party the majority in the British Parliament. The Labour Party gained 32 seats, jumping from 229 to 261, setting back May and the Conservative Party. Instead of accepting defeat, however, May claims that she will continue to push for Brexit negotiations.
“The government I lead will put fairness and opportunity at the heart of everything we do so that we will fulfill the promise of Brexit together,” May said. “Over the next five years build a country in which no one and no community is left behind, a country in which prosperity and opportunity are shared across this United Kingdom.”

May met with the Queen of England Friday morning, giving a statement saying that, with the support of the Northern Irish party, she will form her own government. She claims that this government will get the country through the Brexit talks and will lead Britain forward.

Conservatives fell 12 seats short of the 326 seats they needed for a majority, and are down from the 330 seats they had before May called for this early election.
