Two Kennedys Arrested During Cape Cod Bender

Two members of the Kennedy dynasty were arrested this past Sunday after refusing to comply with law enforcement.

Following several noise complaints about a party that raged until Sunday morning, local police cuffed Matthew “Max” Kennedy, 52, and his daughter Caroline, 22, at a home near the family’s famed Hyannis compound. The time of arrest was 1:00 a.m.

“It’s a loud party statute, that’s what it’s used for,” Barnstable Police Lt. John Murphy told the Boston Herald. Murphy also confirmed that no one else was arrested.

According to CapeCod.com, party-goers were lighting off fireworks and were in violation of a local noise law, which is punishable by a $100 fine and arrest.

Both Kennedys were bailed out that night. Matthew Kennedy pleaded not guilty on charges of disorderly conduct during his arraignment on Monday. His trial hearing is set for Nov. 22, while his daughter Caroline will be arraigned at a later date.

Matthew Kennedy is the ninth child of Robert and Ethel Kennedy. Although he never ran for public office, he worked on the presidential campaigns for Michael Dukakis, Al Gore, John Kerry, and Barack Obama.

His book about his father, “Make Gentle the Life of This World: The Vision of Robert F. Kennedy and the Words That Inspired Him,” was a national bestseller.
