Just hours after Donald Trump contradicted previous White House explanations for why he fired FBI Director James Comey, he suggested canceling press briefings “for the sake of accuracy.”
In a series of tweets Friday, the president said “it is not possible” for his communications team “to stand at podium with perfect accuracy!” He floated the idea of handing out pre-written statements to reporters instead.

His tweets come just hours after he undercut the White House’s earlier explanation that he fired Comey because of two letters of recommendation from Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein this week.
Trump told Lester Holt that Comey’s firing was “set up a while ago.”
“It was set up a while ago, and frankly, I could have waited, but what difference does it make?” Trump said on NBC News Thursday. “Regardless of recommendation, I was going to fire Comey, knowing there was no good time to do it.”
