Trump Puts Pressure on Dems to Fund Wall After Delaying His Own Christmas Plans Amid Shutdown

President Donald Trump delayed his travel plans for Christmas in hopes that Congress would avoid a government shutdown by passing a spending bill that included funding for his proposed border wall. After the lawmakers failed to strike a budget deal, the president put pressure on Democrats to secure our borders.

“It’s really up to the Democrats because we need their votes,” the president said in a video shared on Twitter. “There’s no way it can pass without their votes. We’re going to have a shutdown. There’s nothing we can do about that because we need the Democrats to gives us their votes.

“Call it a Democrat shutdown; call it whatever you want,” he continued. “But we need their help to get this approved. So, Democrats, we have a wonderful list of things that we need to keep our country safe. Let’s get out. Let’s work together. Let’s be bipartisan, and let’s get it done. The shutdown, hopefully, will not last long.”

Trump’s call upon Democratic lawmakers comes after he canceled his trip to Florida on Friday night and sent first lady Melania Trump and their son, Barron, to get their Christmas celebrations started without him.

“Some of the many Bills that I am signing in the Oval Office right now,” he tweeted Friday as Congress weighed the spending bill. “Cancelled my trip on Air Force One to Florida while we wait to see if the Democrats will help us to protect America’s Southern Border!”- READ MORE
