Trump Promises That Texas Will Get The Help It Needs

President Donald Trump said Monday that Texas will get whatever help is necessary to recover from Hurricane Harvey despite his threat to shutdown the government.

Harvey continues to dump rain on Texas, and at least eight people have died as a result of the storm.

“I think you’re going to see very rapid action from Congress, certainly from the President,” Trump said about federal funding to help the recovery effort. “We expect to have requests on our desk fairly soon and we think that that Congress will very much feel the way I feel, in a very bipartisan way that will be nice. But we think you’ll have what you need and it will go fast.”

He added, “I have already spoken to Congress and everybody feels for you and feels for what you’re going through.”

During a recent speech in Arizona, Trump threatened a government shutdown if he doesn’t receive adequate funding for a border wall. A reporter from Texas asked Trump whether the storm made him reconsider this threat, and Trump said, “it has nothing to do with it.”

“I think this is separate. This is going to go really very, very quickly. Again I have spoken to many of the people we’re talking about, and everybody feels the same way I do,” Trump stated.
