Former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says he will soon be deciding whether to launch a bid for outgoing Arizona Republican Sen. Jeff Flake’s seat.
“I’m still thinking of running for Flake’s job. I’m still considering it,” Arpaio told The Western Journal in an exclusive interview on Tuesday. “I haven’t closed the door, that’s for sure.”
“Next year I will be making a decision,” he added.
Arpaio noted he has not lost a Republican primary since first running for Maricopa County Sheriff in 1992.
The county, which encompasses Phoenix and the surrounding communities, is the most populous in Arizona with over 4 million people, approximately 60 percent of the state’s population.
