The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating hiring practices in Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s (D-NY) administration, the Albany Times Union reported Friday.
Investigators are seeking to learn whether Cuomo’s administration hired employees to work in the governor’s office “while paying them through various state agencies and public authorities.”
The practice has allowed Cuomo to expand the size and scope of the governor’s office and simultaneously avoid criticism of “inflating the Executive Chamber budget.”
According to the report, the FBI is also investigating whether the hired employee does any work at all for the agency or authority that actually pays them.
