Telemundo And Univision Now Openly Lobbying In Favor Of Amnesty

Spanish-language television companies Telemundo and Univision are no longer even pretending to hide their bias on the subject of illegal immigration, as both companies put out official statements in support of President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) amnesty program, which the Trump administration will slowly phase out over the next six months.

Both Telemundo and Univision criticized the Trump administration for not continuing DACA, which legal scholars have said is on shaky constitutional ground, and demanded Congress pass legislation granting amnesty to DACA recipients, so-called “dreamers.”

Telemundo, which is owned by NBC, asserted that Congress “should be held accountable” if it doesn’t pass permanent legislation codifying DACA.

Univision Communications Inc. CEO Randy Falco said in a statement that “today’s announcement should not be seen by those who espouse anti-immigrant sentiments as a ‘win’ or a way to send hundreds of thousands of immigrants back into the shadows.”

“We must not allow this move to foster ethnic discrimination in our neighborhoods, schools and workplaces,” Falco said. He called on Congress to “permanently protect the DACA program.” Univision is owned by billionaire Haim Saban, one of Hillary Clinton’s top donors.

Even before the Trump administration announced the phasing-out of DACA, Univision anchor Jorge Ramos was lobbying in favor of DACA, which Attorney General Jeff Sessions said caused a “humanitarian crisis” at the US-Mexico border by encouraging increased illegal immigration.

Ramos sent out a message to “dreamers” on Saturday, saying that “this is the weekend when you’ll try to change Trump’s mind.”

“Tell [Donald Trump] what will happen to you without DACA,” Ramos said, promising to retweet the unverified claims. Hillary Clinton thanked Ramos on Twitter for his efforts.
