The Pentagon identified the two U.S. soldiers killed Sunday in northern Iraq as Sgt. Roshain Euvince Brooks and Sgt. Allen Levi Stigler Jr, in a late Monday press release.

Brooks, Stigler, and five other soldiers were injured from a “mishap” during an artillery fire mission against the Islamic State. Pentagon spokesman Army Col. Rob Manning told reporters Monday that “there is no indication ISIS had anything to do with it.”
All of the injured soldiers were evacuated by air following the mishap. The incident remains under investigation.
Brooks was on his first deployment to Iraq after a months-long stint in Afghanistan in 2014. Stigler was previously deployed to South Korea and was also on his first deployment to Iraq.
“Sergeants Brooks and Stigler were courageous patriots and paratroopers who served our coalition and the people of Iraq with extraordinary commitment,” 82nd Airborne commander Army Col. Pat Work told the Army Times. “Their personal commitments to our campaign against ISIS were extraordinary, and we are incredibly proud to have served with them.”
