Democrats and the mainstream media have had a field day since news broke that former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his conversations with then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during last year’s transition period.

On Jan. 13, 2017 during a press briefing, State Department spokesman Mark Toner said the department did not see anything wrong with members of the incoming administration contacting foreign officials.

Toner was responding to a reporter’s question specifically about then-incoming Flynn and then-Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak.

The Washington Examiner reported that Flynn called Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak on the day that former President Barack Obama announced sanctions against Russia for the “cyberattacks and leaks of Democratic documents during the 2016 presidential election.”
