A patron of Woody’s Roadside Tavern in Farmingdale, New Jersey, made a request of the bar’s owners. Army veteran Andy Barcellona asked that on Sunday of Veterans Day weekend, the NFL games be turned off.
“I don’t think these football players have any idea of what they’re doing. I don’t think they’ve ever had to sacrifice anything,“ Barcellona told News 12. ”I think they’ve lived a privileged life, and it’s hurtful.”
Co-owner Rob Johnson told Patch.com the decision to not broadcast the games for one weekend wasn’t to make a “big political statement,” but it was to show support for veterans and current service members.
“The veterans are the ones who fight for us and give us our freedom of speech,” he added.
