NIGEL FARAGE: UK No Safer Than France, Belgium From Terror (VIDEO)

Former U.K. Independence Party leader Nigel Farage said the possible terror attack at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester Arena Monday night has dispelled the notion Britain is safer than the rest of Europe.

“We have been lulled into a slight sense of complacency,” Farage told Fox News host Tucker Carlson Monday night.

Farage, who led the “Brexit” movement, said he didn’t want to “rush to judgement” on the motivation behind the explosion at Manchester Stadium.

“We’ve convinced ourselves that we’re in a better place than the rest of Europe on this,” Farage said, mentioning terror attacks in France and Belgium in recent years.

The explosion went off outside the arena after the concert ended. At least 19 people were killed and fifty more were injured.

Police are treating the explosion as a possible terror attack. NBC News reported an attacker with a backpack bomb. Many of the casualties are young girls. No terror group has taken credit for the attack, but experts say it bears all the marks of an intentional terror attack.

Islamic State-linked Twitter accounts celebrated the attack, though the group has not taken responsibility.

“This is a direct attack on children, which marks a new low” for terror attacks, Farage told Carlson, adding “we’ve convinced ourselves” the U.K. is a better place when it comes to preventing terrorism.

“Any sense that the United Kingdom is safer than France or Belgium has rather disappeared this evening,” Farage told Carlson.
