Two people were killed and four were hospitalized for injuries in a shooting at a public library in Clovis, N.M., Monday afternoon, the city fire chief told Reuters.

Police arrived at the Clovis-Carver Public Library shortly after 4 p.m. MST and were seen taking a man believed to be the shooter into custody moments later, the Albuquerque Journal reports.

Police dispatch scanner reports indicate multiple air ambulances were dispatched to the scene and at least one victim was brought to the Clovis Municipal Airport for transport to Lubbock, Texas according to Eastern Mexico News.

Vanessa Aguirre told the Albuquerque Journal she was at the library with her son when the attacker, who she believed was carrying a hand gun, entered and “started to shoot” into the air.

“It all happened so fast,” she said. “We took off fast. My purse is still in there.”

Clovis, 190 miles east of Albuquerque, has a population of 40,000 and is near the Cannon Air Force base.
