Move Over, ‘Toxic Masculinity’ – Study Claims Male Gamers Perpetuate ‘Technomasculinity’

Men can’t win. After enduring decades of being called “losers” or “basement dwelling neck beards” while simultaneously being accused of male privilege, now male gamers are being accused of perpetuating “technomasculinity.”

It’s like “toxic masculinity,” but in video games. A “study” from University of Idaho professor Robin Johnson claimed that technomasculinity is “an expression of masculinity that is oriented toward the mastery of technology and skilled use of technological tools and systems.”

“In popular culture this type of masculinity is often associated with individuals who are highly competent with computers but typically lacking in social or physical skills,” Johnson told PJ Media’s Toni Airaksinen.

Fathers are mostly to blame for this allegedly toxic draw toward technology, Johnson claimed in his paper. One father caused his son to exhibit technomasculinity after taking “him to his government job and [allowed] him to play simple computer games.” – READ MORE
