LONDON — In Michael Bloomberg’s view, Brexit is the “single stupidest thing any country has ever done” — apart from the election of Donald Trump as US president.
The media mogul who previously served as New York City’s mayor made numerous damning remarks about Britain’s decision to leave the European Union at events in Boston and France earlier this month, The Guardian reports.
Bloomberg, who Forbes says is worth about £36.2 billion, or $47.5 billion, reportedly said it was “really hard to understand why a country that was doing so well wanted to ruin it,” in reference to last year’s Brexit vote.
Bloomberg was in London on Tuesday to open a European headquarters for his namesake media company, which employs 20,000 people worldwide including 4,000 in the UK.
