Metropolitan Police in London have arrested 12 people in connection with the terror attacks Saturday evening that hit the London Bridge and Borough Market, leaving seven dead and 48 wounded.

Following Prime Minister Theresa May’s proclamation Sunday that “things need to change,” police arrested 12 people in East London after raiding a place belonging to one of the three terrorists, BBC reports.

“We cannot and must not pretend that things can continue as they are,” May said Sunday. “There is — to be frank — far too much tolerance of extremism in our country.”

That dead terrorist was married with two children, although identities have not yet been released.

Police gunned down all three attackers Saturday evening within eight minutes of the first emergency call, using 50 bullets to stop the threat.

The death toll, initially placed at six people, crept up to seven early Sunday morning and is likely to climb still, as 22 people remain in critical condition, according to National Health Service England. While full details on the fatalities are not yet available, police stated that a British Transport police officer and off-duty Metropolitan police officer were among the injured.

Attackers used a white van to plow into pedestrians on London Bridge before exiting the vehicle and embarking on a stabbing rampage, which continued over to the nearby Borough Market. The attackers wore fake bomb vests.

BBC Reporter Holly Jones, who was at London Bridge during the attack, said the van was “traveling at about 50 miles an hour.”

An eyewitness reported that the men shouted “this is for Allah” during the stabbing frenzy.

Within hours, police labeled the events as terror attacks.

The attack Saturday marked the third suffered by Britain in three months.

May noted in her Sunday statement that police and intelligence services have prevented five “credible” terror plots since the attack in March outside Parliament.
