Judicial Watch’s President Tom Fitton is astounded: The Trump officials he finds working on Freedom of Information cases he files are still, typically, Obama holdovers.
Those holdovers, he told The Daily Caller News Foundation, are telling Judicial Watch it will be years before it can get former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s emails. “Frankly,” Fitton told TheDCNF, “we should be waiting just a few months for them to get their act together.”
Trump should take the point of view that the government belongs to Americans– and its agencies need to tell the people what they are up to, Fitton said. “If there is no good reason for withholding information, give it to them and give it to them quickly.”
Trump should embrace “extreme transparency,” for his administration — as well as for former President Barack Obama’s administration. Americans would benefit by knowing more about what Obama did and what he obstructed from the public while in government. Fitton is especially interested in Obama’s alleged spying on candidate Trump and other political opponents.
Fitton is losing patience with politicians. Citizens, he declared, “don’t have to take it from the politicians. They work for you. You don’t work for them.”
And the media, he charged, are missing the biggest scandal. “There’s been no evidence there’s been any collusion, like the left likes to fantasize about, between the Trump campaign and the Russians,” Fitton told TheDCNF, “but there is evidence that the Trump team was spied upon by the Obama administration using this ‘Russia connection,’ which is really weak, as a pretext.”
Fitton is appalled by the newly unfolding crimes of misuse of classified information and the unlawful leaking of this information to the media by President Donald Trump’s opponents inside the government.
Surveillance of opponents, Fitton says, is right in line with the Obama administration’s use of the IRS against political opponents.
Fitton thinks Trump must start “draining the swamp” by reducing the size and scope of the massive federal government. He also mentioned the need to turn off the federal taxpayer spigot to left-wing interest groups, which he said should be privately –not publicly– funded.
Fitton does not hold out much hope that Congress will provide effective congressional oversight of the executive branch, saying Congress “is set up to spend money. They are not set up to investigate how the money’s spent, or to police or hold accountable corrupt government officials.”
