GOP senator Susan Collins expressed doubt that President Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee in the 2020 presidential election.

Collins, who has long been an outspoken critic of Trump, said on MSNBC Monday that it is “too difficult to say” if Trump will end up being the nominee.

“I didn’t support the president when he was our party’s nominee,” Collins said when asked if other Republicans should step in to prevent Trump from gaining the nomination. “It was a very difficult position for me to take. I’d never taken it before.”

“That was very hard for me to do as a lifelong Republican,” she said.

Responding to the assertion that Trump is running for reelection, Collins argued, “it’s too soon to tell.”

“Do you think he will end up the party’s nominee in 2020?” host Hallie Jackson asked.

“It’s too difficult to tell,” Collins said bluntly.
