Doug Jones, the Democratic senator-elect who recently bested the embattled Republican Senate candidate in an Alabama special election, says he doesn’t agree with some of his soon-to-be colleagues calling for President Donald Trump to resign over numerous sexual misconduct and assault allegations.
“Those allegations were made before the election, and so people had an opportunity to judge before that election,” Jones said, appearing to echo the White House‘s defense of Trump.
“I think we need to move on and not get distracted by those issues,” Jones told CNN’s Jake Tapper on Sunday.
“Let’s get on with the real issues that are facing the people of this country right now, and I don’t think that the president ought to resign at this point. We’ll see how things go, but certainly, those allegations are not new and he was elected with those allegations front and center.”
