UPDATE: Republican Mike Braun will win the U.S. Senate race in Indiana, ABC projects based on vote analysis.

Results expected around 6:00 PM EST.  You can view live updates above. We will also have a backup live results link at the bottom of this story in case the above unit has any technical errors.

Indiana Democrats face stiff challenges in Tuesday’s election as they try to hold a U.S. Senate seat and cut into the Republican Party’s grip on most congressional seats.

Sen Joe Donnelly is locked in tough fight with GOP businessman Mike Braun in a race that saw two campaign appearances for Braun by President Donald Trump and one for Donnelly by former President Barack Obama in the waning days.

Indiana’s nine U.S. House seats are up for grabs, but only two GOP-controlled ones are considered in play. One is in southern Indiana, and the other is in the northwestern part of the state where Obama appeared Sunday in a get out the vote drive.

Three other statewide races — those for secretary of state, state auditor and treasurer — are on the ballot. Voters also will decide whether Indiana’s constitution should be amended for the second time in two years. – READ MORE

Ron DeSantis vs. Andrew Gillum LIVE RESULTS: Florida Governor Race

UPDATE: Democrat Andrew Gillum has just conceded to Republican Ron DeSantis in the race for Florida Governor

Results expected around 7:00 PM EST. You can view live updates above. We will also have a backup live results link at the bottom of this story in case the above unit has any technical issues.

Voters are deciding whether to keep Florida under Republican control with a close Trump ally or elect its first Democratic governor since 1994 — and the first African-American ever — after a campaign marked by a deadly hurricane and gun violence.

Former Republican U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis is hoping to ride President Donald Trump’s backing to victory in the governor’s race Tuesday, while Democratic Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum has sought to energize his party’s voters as an unabashed liberal.

Gillum’s path to the nomination was a surprise, winning against four better-funded challengers. Hurricane Michael pulled him off the campaign trail in early October when it left nearly all of Florida’s capital without power. He again rushed home Friday, canceling campaign events after a man shot six people at a yoga studio, killing two before taking his own life.

DeSantis won the primary against better-known and better-funded Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam based largely on Trump’s endorsement. Trump visited Florida twice in the final six days of the election to try to boost turnout. – READ MORE

Bill Nelson vs. Rick Scott LIVE RESULTS: Florida Senate Race

UPDATE: Decision Desk HQ reports that Republican Rick Scott has won Florida’s Senate race

Results expected around 7:00 PM EST.  You can view live updates above. We will also have a backup live results link at the bottom of this story in case the above unit has any technical errors.

After a bruising and bitter U.S. Senate campaign that saw both sides unleash a torrent of negative TV ads, Florida voters are now choosing whether to keep three-term incumbent Democrat Bill Nelson or replace him with Republican Gov. Rick Scott.

The choice could help decide whether the Senate stays in Republican control.

The two candidates are heavyweights within each party: Nelson has withstood years of GOP dominance to remain the only Democrat elected statewide, while Scott is a two-term governor urged by President Donald Trump to take Nelson on.

A loss by the 76-year-old Nelson would likely end his political career and make it nearly impossible for Democrats to retake the Senate. If Scott loses, it could be a blow to his future political ambitions. – READ MORE

Stacey Abrams vs. Brian Kemp LIVE RESULTS: Georgia Governor Race

Results expected around 7:00 PM EST. You can view live updates above. We will also have a backup live results link at the bottom of this story in case the above unit has any technical issues.

Democrat Stacey Abrams and Republican Brian Kemp are facing off in what could be a historic election, as Abrams has the potential to become the country’s first black female governor. The race is also in some ways a referendum on President Trump and his policies, and a test of the diverse, progressive Democratic coalition that helped elect former President Barack Obama.

Abrams, the former minority leader of the state’s House of Representatives, and Kemp, the current Georgia secretary of state, have been locked in a close race for months. The contest has attracted national attention, as Mr. Obama and Oprah Winfrey campaigned with Abrams and Mr. Trump held a rally with Kemp. To make the rally, Kemp skipped a debate with Abrams.

Democrats accuse Kemp, who is in charge of overseeing elections in the state, of disenfranchising voters. And in the lead-up to Election Day, Kemp’s office leveled a vague accusation of “potential cyber crimes” at Georgia Democrats. Kemp did not provide evidence to back up the charge, however, and Democrats dismissed the move as an 11th-hour stunt.

Georgia has had a Republican governor since 2003, and the state has voted for the GOP in presidential elections since 1992. But political experts tend to believe that Georgia is likely to become more Democratic due to changing demographics, particularly in the Atlanta area. – READ MORE

UPDATE: NBC News: Joe Manchin re-elected

Results expected around 7:30 PM EST.  You can view live updates above. We will also have a backup live results link at the bottom of this story in case the above unit has any technical errors.

Democratic incumbent senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia is in the fight of his political life, as his race against Republican Patrick Morrisey was changed to “toss up” on the eve of the election.

Manchin added a dozen events leading up to Tuesday, making stops across the state from Beckley to Marlinton to Bridgeport, before concluding with a “Take Me Home” motorcycle ride at his campaign headquarters in Charleston.

RealClearPolitics changed the Senate race on Monday from “lean Democratic” to “toss up” in response to gains made by Morrisey in the polls. Manchin now has just a 5-point advantage over Morrisey going into Election Day, according to the website’s average.

A poll last week had Morrisey, the state’s attorney general, up two points. Disaffected Democrats flocked to see President Trump at a rally in Huntington on Friday, where the president urged West Virginians, who voted for him by more than 40 points in 2016, to vote for Morrisey. – READ MORE

UPDATE: Democrat Elizabeth Warren wins re-election to U.S. Senate from Massachusetts, AP reports.

Results expected around 8:00 PM EST.  You can view live updates above. We will also have a backup live results link at the bottom of this story in case the above unit has any technical errors.

Democratic U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, weighing a possible White House run, is hoping to defeat two challengers in a state election that will also decide a slew of congressional races, a gubernatorial contest and whether Massachusetts should keep protections for transgender people.

Topping Tuesday’s ballot is the Senate race. Republican state Rep. Geoff Diehl and independent candidate Shiva Ayyadurai are hoping to deny Warren a second six-year term.

If Warren wins, attention will quickly turn to the 2020 election. Warren has promised to take “a hard look” at a presidential run.

In the race for governor, Democrat Jay Gonzalez is trying to topple Republican Gov. Charlie Baker, who remains popular in Massachusetts and has maintained a lopsided fundraising edge. – READ MORE

Debbie Stabenow vs. John James LIVE RESULTS: Michigan Senate Race

UPDATE: Michigan Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D) re-elected, NBC reports.

Results expected around 8:00 PM EST.  You can view live updates above. We will also have a backup live results link at the bottom of this story in case the above unit has any technical errors.

Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow of Michigan is seeking a fourth term on Tuesday, hoping to stave off political newcomer John James and prevent a surprise breakthrough in a state where Republican senators have been a rarity.

Stabenow highlights her bipartisan achievements and experience amid divisiveness in Washington while criticizing James’ support for President Donald Trump’s agenda. James, a black combat veteran and businessman whom Trump has called “a star,” faults Stabenow as ineffective and too liberal while asking voters to make a leadership change.

The 68-year-old Stabenow, of Lansing, was first elected to the Senate in 2000 by defeating an incumbent and she easily withstood challenges in 2006 and 2012. She has consistently led the lesser-known James in polls since his primary victory, and has kept her message positive in TV ads.

Michigan Republicans have held a Senate seat just once in 40 years.

James, of Farmington Hills, flew helicopters in the Iraq War before returning to Michigan to help run his family’s automotive logistics company in Detroit. He casts himself as a mender of Washington’s partisan divide and as someone who could broaden Republicans’ appeal to minorities and millennials. – READ MORE

Claire McCaskill vs. Josh Hawley LIVE RESULTS: Missouri Senate Race

UPDATE: Republican Josh Hawley defeats incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill.

Results expected around 8:00 PM EST.  You can view live updates above. We will also have a backup live results link at the bottom of this story in case the above unit has any technical errors.

The race for the U.S. Senate seat in Missouri could not be tighter heading into Tuesday, as Sen. Claire McCaskill, a Democrat, tries to keep her Senate seat and beat back her Republican challenger, Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley.

A September CBS News poll showed McCaskill and Hawley tied, 45 percent to 45 percent, and Real Clear Politics’ most recent aggregation of other polls has them tied 46 percent to 46 percent.

President Trump held two rallies in Missouri in the final week of the campaign to drum up support for Hawley as he focuses on keeping control of, or possibly gaining, Republican seats in the Senate. McCaskill is vulnerable in a state that overwhelmingly chose Mr. Trump over Hillary Clinton in 2016, and the state is one of Republicans’ best chances to pick up a seat.

McCaskill has tried to brand herself as an independent member of the Senate who stays true to her Missouri roots, but Mr. Trump has portrayed her as closely tied to the Democratic leadership. Hawley has allied himself closely with the president and his policies. – READ MORE

Incumbent Senator Bob Menendez and Republican challenger Bob Hugin voted early on Tuesday, with both candidates acknowledging that anything can happen in such a close race.

After voting at the Harrison Community Center, Sen. Menendez said he hopes the rain holds off for New Jersey voters and chided his opponent for calling Tuesday’s forecast “Republican weather.”

“(Hugin) hopes it pours so people don’t come out,” Menendez said. “I hope it pours with votes. There’s only one way to create a blue wave, and that’s to get in the water and come out to vote.”

Hugin was quoted Monday at a rally in GOP stronghold Ocean County commenting, “It’s raining out, right? That’s Republican weather.” – READ MORE

UPDATE: Republican incumbent Ted Cruz will win Texas’ U.S. Senate race, defeating Democratic Rep. Beto O’Rourke, ABC reports.

Results expected around 8:00 PM EST.  You can view live updates above. We will also have a backup live results link at the bottom of this story in case the above unit has any technical errors.

Democratic Rep. Beto O’Rourke is challenging Republican Sen. Ted Cruz in an unexpectedly close Senate race, which has the potential to elect a Democrat in a statewide office for the first time since 1994.

Cruz emerged on the national political scene in 2012 as a Tea Party star. He orchestrated a government shutdown in 2013 and was the runner-up for the Republican nomination in the 2016 presidential election. However, while he gained national attention, these high-profile actions may have backfired back home.

Enter Beto O’Rourke, a charismatic El Paso-area congressman with an ability to attract a large and passionate following — and an extremely large campaign war chest. O’Rourke, who has visited every county in Texas during his campaign, raised more than $38 million in the final quarter before the election, an unprecedented amount for a Senate race. O’Rourke and his followers believe that a progressive congressman can win the hearts of voters in deep-red Texas.

Although Cruz leads O’Rourke in the polls, the fact that the race is so close concerns national Republicans and excites Democrats. National Democrats have dreamed of a blue Texas for years, thanks to changing demographics and increased urbanization. – READ MORE

Kyrsten Sinema vs. Martha McSally LIVE RESULTS: Arizona Senate Race

Results expected around 9:00 PM EST. You can view live updates above. We will also have a backup live results link at the bottom of this story in case the above unit has any technical errors.

The race for Arizona’s U.S. Senate seat was very close heading into Election Day. According to the latest CBS News poll released last week, Democratic Rep. Kyrsten Sinema held a 3-point edge over Republican Rep. Martha McSally, 47 percent to 44 percent.

No matter who wins, Arizona will have its first female senator in history.

The candidates have both been eyeing swing voters as they vie to replace Republican senator and frequent Trump critic Jeff Flake. Flake has said his brand of Republicanism simply isn’t viable anymore in today’s polarized political climate.

As of October, Sinema had raised roughly $18.9 million, edging out McSally’s $16.1 million.

But the milestone of electing the state’s first female senator isn’t that important to all voters. A recent CBS News poll showed more than half of Democrats are excited about the state electing its first female senator, but most Republicans say it doesn’t matter. – READ MORE

Jon Tester vs. Matt Rosendale LIVE RESULTS: Montana Senate Race

Results expected around 10:00 PM EST.  You can view live updates above. We will also have a backup live results link at the bottom of this story in case the above unit has any technical errors.

Despite final polls showing Democratic Sen. Jon Tester leading Republican Matt Rosendale, Republicans in Montana who spoke to Newsmax still voiced confidence they could make Rosendale only the fourth Republican U.S. Senator in their state’s history.

A Harris Interactive poll completed November 4 showed two-termer Tester leading State Auditor Rosendale by 49 to 43 percent. Five days before, a Gravis Poll gave Tester the lead over Rosendale by 48 to 45 percent.

“Vice President Pence is now at a local airport with [Republican Sens.] Lindsay Graham [S.C.] and Cory Gardiner [Colo.],” former Secretary of State Bob Brown told Newsmax on Monday afternoon,

“Don Trump, Jr. and Kimberly Guilfoyle were in Montana stumping for Matt for days last week. And of course the President himself has been here four times.” – READ MORE

Jacky Rosen vs. Dean Heller LIVE RESULTS: Nevada Senate Race

Results expected around 10:00 PM EST.  You can view live updates above. We will also have a backup live results link at the bottom of this story in case the above unit has any technical errors.

A late poll released Monday shows Rep. Jacky Rosen has a four-point lead over Republican Sen. Dean Heller in the Nevada Senate race, according to The Hill.

What the numbers say: The Emerson College poll showed the Democratic candidate Rosen leading Heller 49 percent to 45 percent. The poll’s margin of error is +/- 3 percent, and 4 percent of voters responded that they are still undecided. Just a few weeks ago, Emerson College polling showed Heller leading Rosen by 7 points.

What is the Trump effect here? Heller has hitched his wagon to President Donald Trump after initially opposing Trump as the Republican presidential nominee and early in his first term. That doesn’t seem like a bad decision so far, as Trump’s favorability rating in the state is higher than either Heller’s or Rosen’s. Trump is viewed favorably by 47 percent of respondents, while Heller sits at 43 percent and Rosen at 42 percent favorability.

Something to watch for: Early voting numbers in Clark County favor Democrats, which some political analysts believe is significant to the final results. – READ MORE

Kevin Cramer vs. Heidi Heitkamp LIVE RESULTS: North Dakota Senate Race

Results expected around 10:00 PM EST.  You can view live updates above. We will also have a backup live results link at the bottom of this story in case the above unit has any technical errors.

Nine months after Kevin Cramer changed his mind about running for Senate, he’ll find out if voters agree it was the right one.

After entering the race in February after a personal plea from President Donald Trump, Cramer tied himself closer than ever to Trump in hopes of knocking off Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp. Heitkamp struck back by portraying Cramer as a yes-man and playing up her independence from her own party.

Voters Tuesday were also weighing whether to legalize marijuana. Supporters relied mostly on a shoe-leather campaign after they didn’t attract much help from big national groups.

The state’s House seat was also up for grabs, with Republican Kelly Armstrong seen as a favorite to take Cramer’s place. – READ MORE

Gavin Newsom vs. John Cox LIVE RESULTS: California Governor Race

UPDATE: Gavin Newsom projected to defeat John Cox to become California governor

Results expected around 11:00 PM EST. You can view live updates above. We will also have a backup live results link at the bottom of this story in case the above unit has an technical errors.

A Democratic heavyweight faces a Republican businessman who’s never held elected office in Tuesday’s race for California governor, which will determine the future of the state’s aggressive resistance to President Donald Trump.

Democratic Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom is strongly favored over Republican John Cox in a state where the GOP has 3.8 million fewer registered voters.

The job is open because Democrat Jerry Brown is termed out. The 80-year-old Brown has been governor for 16 years, first from 1975 to 1983 and then again starting in 2011 after completing a remarkable political comeback.

Elsewhere in California, Democratic U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein is favored to win re-election at age 85 and Democrats are seeking to win as many as seven GOP U.S. House seats as they try to retake control of Congress. A ballot initiative to reverse a gas tax hike backed by Brown is a rallying cry as Republicans seek a way to stay relevant in a state where Democrats control all the levers of power. – READ MORE
