Two U.S. soldiers were killed in during an attack on a NATO convoy in Kandahar, Afghanistan, the Pentagon confirmed Wednesday.

Kandahar is one of the southern most provinces in Afghanistan and is a historic sanctuary for Taliban insurgents. NATO Resolute Support command previously confirmed an attack on a convoy that “caused casualties.”

The Department of Defense and U.S. Forces Afghanistan will release more information on the circumstances of these service members’ deaths as details become available and next of kin are notified.
