Daily Beast Slams NRA’s ‘False Narrative’ On Shooting Victim, Mess Up His Name

A Daily Beast column trashed the National Rifle Association Friday over a video that it made, but ended up misspelling the name of the very person it was trying to defend.

The column,”The NRA Has Entered the Province of Cowards,” slammed the NRA for being more focused on making a “divisive video” than speaking out on the Philando Castile shooting.

The three columnists spelled Castile’s name wrong in their attempt to try and defend him.

“They are selling a false narrative that there is only one right way to be a patriot. This divisive rhetoric is amplified by their deafening silence on the killing of Phillando Castile, a law-abiding gun owner,” the three writers noted. The proper spelling of Castile’s name is “Philando.”

A former St. Anthony police officer fatally shot Castile seven times during a traffic stop last July.

Castile’s mother also criticized the NRA for its year-long silence on Castile’s death at the Friday Women’s March against the NRA.

“Speaking of black men with a license to carry, the NRA should be ashamed of themselves for waiting a whole damn year to issue a statement about my son,” Valerie Castile’s statement read. “Now that everything is said and done, they want to issue a statement. I know they waited this long because Philando was black.”
