CNN celebrated Monday’s impending solar eclipse in an unconventional way, having singer Bonnie Tyler on to discuss her performance of the hit song “Total Eclipse of The Heart,” and hilarity ensued.
Co-Host John Berman called Tyler’s 1983 track, “one of the greatest songs of all time” before posing a series of awkward questions in a serious tone. “You’re essentially the official voice of total eclipses correct?” he asked.
Tyler laughed and played along, citing it as the number one song people who sing karaoke choose. Tyler then claimed “Total Eclipse of The Heart” helps lend cosmic perspective by reminding us of the wonders of the universe. Tyler will sing the song on a Royal Caribbean Cruise while the eclipse takes place.
“It just shows us that this universe is amazing it just reminds us about what really is out there and what we are apart of,” she said.
Berman asked Tyler if it is possible to stare into a total eclipse of the heart without protective glasses. “I will definitely be wearing my glasses later, but I’m sure you can look into my heart. I wear it on my sleeve,” Tyler responded.
When Berman asked Tyler for her favorite verse of the song, the singer immediately burst out. “I need you more than ever, and if you only hold me tight, we’ll be holding on forever,” she said. Berman managed to find a lighter and held it out in front of him simulating a rock concert.
“You have given us more than we could ever have hoped for,” Berman concluded.
