WaPo: Deporting People Just Because They’re In The U.S. Illegally Is Mean

Yesterday we all learned that the Emma Lazarus poem “The New Colossus,” which is inscribed on a plaque inside the Statue of Liberty, has the force of law. “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses,” etc. You know the one. Sure, that poem isn’t technically a law, but it sure is a nice sentiment. And aren’t ideas that make us feel good about ourselves basically the same as laws, when you don’t think about it? They must be, or smart guys like CNN’s Jim Acosta wouldn’t use them to bring the “heat” to those meanies in the White House.

Roses are red
Acosta is regal
He quoted a poem
And that makes it legal

Speaking of laws, enforcing them is good when it’s something like Obamacare. But did you know that sometimes, enforcing a law is bad?

Rachel Chason, WaPo:

Two brothers from Gaithersburg were deported to their native El Salvador on Wednesday in what their attorney says was the fastest deportation process he has ever seen.

Lizandro Claros Saravia, 19, is a standout soccer player who had secured a scholarship to play college soccer in North Carolina. His brother, Diego, 22, took extra classes to graduate from Quince Orchard High School on time and “has a heart of gold,” a former teacher said.

They entered the country illegally in 2009, however…

“These kids did nothing wrong — but that is too low a bar. These kids excelled,” said Heather Bradley, who taught Diego’s English as a Second Language class at Quince Orchard and worked with Lizandro on the literary magazine.

So there you have it. They did nothing wrong… other than moving to another country illegally. Sure, it’s illegal, but since when is that a crime?

Our moral, ethical, and intellectual betters keep insisting that the rest of the world is better than America. And yet they burst into a rage when illegal aliens are sent back to their own countries. Which is it, guys?

If I move to another country illegally and I get caught, they’re going to deport me back to my country of origin. And somehow, it won’t be racist.

I respect people who come to America legally. I don’t care what you look like or what you believe. If you’re willing to do the work it takes to become a United States citizen, my hat’s off to ya. I won’t disrespect you by pretending you’re the same as all the people who keep cutting in line.

Sorry, Emma Lazarus!
