(Daily Caller) Vox Magazine published a video Friday attempting to legitimize the fake and unsourced opposition research that alleges President-elect Donald Trump hired prostitutes while staying at a hotel in Moscow.
The video also discusses the reasons why Republicans have a favorable view of Russian President Vladimir Putin in recent polling. Deputy Managing Editor Yochi Dreazen argues that the “Intelligence Document” was published by a former British spy.
“This isn’t Hollywood, this isn’t conspiracy, this isn’t paranoia, this may actually on some level be true,” Dreazen said in the video.
The memo was widely discredited almost immediately, with even The New York Times and the Washington Post confirming they could not successfully corroborate any of the information during an independent investigation.
The memo reportedly circled newsrooms around Washington, D.C., before Buzzfeed published the memo Tuesday, and CNN reported the findings later that day. The opposition research asserts that Trump hired prostitutes during a hotel stay in Moscow, Russia, and that Putin expected to use the information to gain influence over Trump’s decision making.
Trump flatly denied the accusations during a press conference, where he called CNN “fake news” for publishing the unsourced, unverified report.
