ESPN pundit Stephen A. Smith believes Team USA hockey coach John Tortorella should be fired for saying he’ll bench players who sit during the national anthem.

“You are saying that if he [Kaepernick] chose to exercise his right as an American citizen you representing the United States would then turn around and punish him for the very rights this country has bestowed upon its citizens? If that’s not un-American I don’t know what is. So as far as I’m concerned the problem is not with Colin Kaepernick. It is with John Tortorella who should be stripped of his title as coach of Team USA unless he changes his stance,” Smith said Wednesday during ESPN’s show “First Take.” – READ MORE

    Sure, player has an inalienable right to disrespect the flag by kneeling. Yes, that is the “very right this country has bestowed upon its citizens” and let us add that right was secured by the blood of patriots serving in our Armed Forces which Colin did not do. And as Smith should know, a coach also has an absolute right … to put HIS selection of players on the ice. Let the child wearing #7 – and others – know that they do not live in a vacuum. There are actions and reactions that come with their conduct. Grow up and deal with it. And to Stephen Smith – unless you picked up a rifle and stood a post, or somehow gave of yourself in defense of our liberty, do not pre-suppose to lecture us.
