US-Led Coalition Fighter Jets Strike Pro-Assad Forces In Southern Syria by Jonah Bennett.

U.S.-led coalition fighter jets hit pro-Bashar al-Assad forces in southern Syria, U.S. officials said Thursday.

A U.S. defense official confirmed to Stars and Stripes that the fighter jets hit pro-regime forces because these forces were viewed as a threat to “U.S. partners” close to Jordan, a long-standing U.S. ally.

Apparently, these forces were approaching U.S. and British “red lines” near the Tanaf base.

The attack also reportedly hit Iranian militias in an area where U.K. special forces recently operated, which is between Jordan and Syria.

The strike comes over a month after the U.S. launched tomahawk missiles at a Syrian air base in response to American intelligence assessments that stated the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad used chemical weapons in an attack at Idlib.
