FBI Director James Comey better update his resume. And fast.

President-Elect Donald Trump and his transition team insiders are finalizing a list of top candidates to replace Comey to head the country’s premier — and embattled — law enforcement agency, a Trump transition insider told True Pundit.

Trump feels that the American public’s confidence in the FBI under Comey’s leadership has been fractured, perhaps beyond repair, the insider said. But after his inauguration Trump plans to meet with Comey to discuss his decision. Is it possible Comey could salvage his FBI career during a sit down with Trump?

“Mr. Trump is looking for answers on why things were handled the way they were,” the insider said, referring to the FBI’s Hillary Clinton email investigation. “I’d say the director has little chance of remaining. But this is why Mr. Trump wants answers to start reshaping things.”

While there is a razor-thin chance Comey could be retained at the FBI the collective belief in the Trump camp is that he would not be a very good fit to work alongside incoming Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Sessions has shared many reservations about Comey with Trump, the insider admitted.

The news from Trump’s inner circle to revamp the FBI under the new presidential administration comes on the heels of more bad news for the embattled bureau. The Justice Department’s Inspector General today launched an investigation into whether the FBI’s probe of Clinton’s mishandling of emails while serving as secretary of state was conducted above board. Comey’s actions leading up to the November election, where he announced the FBI would reopen the Clinton investigation and then days later abruptly proclaimed that Clinton was again cleared of wrongdoing will also be part of the IG’s investigation.
