President Trump on Saturday praised former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon’s move back to Breitbart News, the website where he worked before joining the Trump campaign last August.
“Steve Bannon will be a tough and smart new voice at @BreitbartNews…maybe even better than ever before,” Trump wrote on Twitter, adding: “Fake News needs the competition!”

Bannon was fired on Friday after a week of speculation over his status in the Trump White House. According to various reports, Trump was annoyed that Bannon took credit for much of his election victory and his policy decisions.
Bannon’s ouster fed theories that he plans to take on members of the Trump administration he has reportedly clashed with during his White House tenure. Bannon’s alt-right nationalist bent has put him at odds with centrist Trump advisers like Jared Kushner, National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster and national economic adviser Gary Cohn.
Shortly after Bannon was officially fired, he lamented the end of the Trump presidency in an interview with The Weekly Standard.
“The Trump presidency that we fought for, and won, is over,” Bannon said. “We still have a huge movement, and we will make something of this Trump presidency. But that presidency is over. It’ll be something else. And there’ll be all kinds of fights, and there’ll be good days and bad days, but that presidency is over.”
Shortly after that article posted, Breitbart News announced that Bannon would be resuming his position as the website’s chairman. Bannon had held that title since 2012, after the death of Andrew Breitbart, the site’s founder.
Bannon held an editorial meeting with Breitbart staff Friday afternoon.\
