New White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci placed an unscheduled call to CNN’s “New Day” and said the leaks within the Trump administration are so treasonous that “150 years ago people would have actually been hung for those types of leaks.”

CNN contributor Ryan Lizza was talking about Scaramucci by phone, saying he had deleted a tweet accusing White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus of being involved with West Wing leaks. Host Chris Cuomo stopped Lizza and allowed Scaramucci to take center stage to defend himself.

“I try to play it straight with people,” said Scaramucci. “As you know from the Italian expression ‘the fish stinks from the head down.’ But I can tell you two fish that don’t stink, and that’s me and the president.”

Scaramucci made his disgust for the leaks known, saying the conduct of White House Employees has been disturbing.

“I don’t like the activities that’s going on in the White House. I don’t like what they’re doing to my friend. I don’t like what they’re doing to the president of the United States of their fellow colleagues in the West Wing.”

He then went after Lizza, saying reporters like him know who the leakers are but won’t reveal their names. He said he respected their silence but felt the media blew his tweet out of proportion.

Scaramucci compared his relationship with Preibus to “Cain and Abel,” from the Bible saying the only reason he included his name in the tweet was to emphasize his role in helping get to the bottom of the leaks.

“I put Reince’s name in a tweet, they [the media] make the assumption it’s him because journalists know who the leakers are. So, if Reince wants to explain he’s not a leaker, let him tell you about himself.”

Scaramucci continued his public praise of the president adding, “he’s the smartest person that I’ve ever worked for … he has intuition, he has judgement and he has a temperament in a way that I have never seen.”

The interview continued for almost another 20 minutes with Cuomo and Scaramucci going one-on-one over media bias and integrity within the White House.

“I’m talking about nefarious, unnecessary back stabbing palace intrigue-like leaks. Those are the leaks the President and I are working to stop,” said Scaramucci.
